PODCAST: The comic makers tackling profound subjects in unique, funny and devastating ways. My guest is illustrator and comic-maker Debbie Jenkinson. She explains her approach to telling the personal story of her dying father in  ‘Heirloom’ (pictured above), shares the concept behind the genre of ‘hospice comics’ and introduces a world of amazing makers. See below podcast link for a selection of extracted images from some of the comics mentioned.

Comics and graphic novels are a great medium to explore some of life’s more challenging subjects. Debbie has created work exploring the highs and lows of the human condition. In this episode, we explore her work and that of other comic makers dealing with death, dying and bereavement. There is even a sub-genre of ‘hospice comics’ where makers process the experience of coping with the decline and death of loved ones.
