USA – Why we should redraw the deathcare map and create a genuinely green alternative.

Katrina Spade is founder and director of the Urban Death Project. It’s a deeply innovative reimagining of deathcare for the 21st century. She has developed a green alternative where we can safely compost our remains inside a specially-designed building. Families can bring their deceased loved one to the sensitively-designed space where they can say goodbye in their own way. As part of the service, the remains of the deceased can be gently placed on the ‘core’. Their bodies then begin a biological transformation into compost through an entirely environmentally-friendly process. This can take up to four to six weeks for the whole cycle to complete.
